Our Curriculum Overview

A Commitment to Excellence

Every child in the Montessori environments has a customized plan based on their own interest and pace of development. Education is a natural process in Montessori environment.

PRACTICAL LIFE

Child is shown practical life activities as soon as he enters Abhishta environment. These activities are the preliminary activities which he sees in his daily life. This helps him to connect to the environment. The purpose and aim of Practical Life is to help the child gain control in his movements, and help the child to gain independence and adapt to his society. He will eventually progress towards learning more complicated movements. In order to gain control over his movements, working concentrate in order to complete the work cycle we give practical life first.

SENSORIAL

Children in this plane don’t have the intelligence to think and make choices, hence from the birth child touches and feel everything. He doesn’t know the difference between hot and cold and so he gets attracted to light and intends to touch it. That is why Montessori through her observation made such materials that the child can feel, touch, manipulate and witness the whole idea of math even without teaching them anything. Through working with the material his senses will be refined. He will know the minute differences. When his senses are refined he can gather precise information and when he can gather information well his intelligence comes through.

LANGUAGE

We know when child is born, he has no idea of how to
communicate. He needs to develop his language. He learns his
language only through listening, observing mouth movements.
We can observe this babbling of the child even before he talks.
This is a clear evidence of the child observation power. The
more you give to the child in this age, the more the child
absorbs. That is why we do more of spoken first and then go to
reading and writing. Spoken is activity based and sensorial. We
give a clear idea about what is needed to write, speak, and read.
We give sound of each alphabet, attach them to symbols
(alphabets), then we encourage child to write.

MATHEMATICS

Mathematics is integral part of our life because every discipline
of our life is connected to math in some way. We cannot
function without mathematics in our life. Math is working in
abstract. Mathematical mind allows our intelligence to work in
abstract, create, imagine and predict. Because of this nature we
are able to create such phenomenal creations. As the child is
sensorial learner, we give math in a sensorial way. We give the
idea of units, Idea of zero, idea of units coming together to make
a quantity, idea of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
Children make their own numbers, control their own errors
which makes them independent.

CULTURE

Culture is nothing but the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a particular people or society. it is very important for the child to know how the society works, what are its norms, its regulations. Hence Montessori environment has only those elements of culture which belongs to the child’s time/place and by looking at those he can connect to the real world around him and appreciate it. Culture is given sensorially. Language is also provided while giving activities. Culture in Montessori environment comprises botany, zoology, art, science, music, dance, flags, countries, states.
